Kitchen Cabinet Trends

The kitchen has been the heart of the home for centuries, and that hasn't changed. It's still where you start your day, a social hub for friends and family, and much more. So, it's no surprise that creating a warm and inviting kitchen is at the top of most homeowner's to-do lists.
And if you're thinking about selling your home anytime soon, Zillow reports that a minor kitchen remodel can deliver an 81.1% return on investment. That's even more than a midrange major kitchen remodel (59%) or an upscale major kitchen remodel (53.5%).
Perhaps your kitchen isn't as warm and inviting as you would like and needs a little TLC, but you aren't sure where to begin. The cabinets are such a huge part of your kitchen that they're a great place to start, so let's look at a few of today's kitchen cabinet trends.
9 Kitchen Cabinet Trends
- Painted Cabinets
Painting your kitchen cabinets is one of the current kitchen cabinet trends. In an article called "Painted Kitchen Cabinets Are Making a Comeback," Southern Living states, "For families spending more time at home, albeit on a budget, painted kitchen cabinets offer a new look without the cost and labor associated with a top-to-bottom kitchen overhaul." - White Cabinets
White cabinets still have a stronghold in our area because they're a timeless and classic choice that doesn't go out of style. White can also brighten a dark kitchen and make it appear bigger. Many of our customers choose white with grey-tan undertones. In fact, when you look at the color swatches, they may not even look white, but the color is so gentle that you will still have that light, bright feeling for your kitchen. - Gray Cabinets
Gray, of course, is still going strong. Gray cabinets create a neutral and sophisticated look that appears modern and elegant. Plus, they're very versatile. Typically, homeowners choose darker shades with strong earthy undertones. - Blue Cabinets
Blue is the most soothing color in the color wheel because it helps you "unwind, find peace, and become more comfortable expressing your feelings," according to Mental Health America. "It's also associated with wisdom, creativity, and spirituality." Our customers occasionally request deep blue colors for their kitchen cabinets but more often choose lighter shades of blue. - Green Cabinets
Many of our customers are drawn to green (in almost every shade) for their kitchen cabinets. According to Mental Health America, green is associated with nature and is considered the most balanced color. "It encourages you to be independent and make changes, as well as enhances feelings of love, joy, and inner peace." - Mixed-Color Cabinets
Mixing the colors of your cabinets has become extremely popular here in our area and nationally. A Houzz survey found that 46% of homeowners use a different color for their island cabinets. Another option is to choose one color for your upper cabinets and another for your lower cabinets. Contrasting colors are popular, but if your kitchen is smaller, we suggest combining complementary shades rather than contrasting colors. You will still get that high-end designer look but in a soft transition. - Glass-Front Cabinets
Replacing the front panel of your cabinet with glass (clear, frosted, or textured) is another trend seen nationally. Glass-front cabinets look great in both traditional and modern kitchens and allow you to showcase your dishware, glasses, etc. - Updating Hardware
Many homeowners are discovering that updating their cabinet hardware – doorknobs, handles, hinges, etc. – is an easy and inexpensive way to update their kitchen, especially if they're also having their cabinets updated with a coat of paint. - Replacing Dining Tables with Kitchen Islands
Kitchen islands have been popular for many years, but today, the trend is to replace your dining table with an island rather than use it as an additional place to eat a meal or to grab a quick bite.
