2024 Paint Color Trends

With the new year and the long winter months ahead, you may be thinking about re-imagining your interior space with a fresh coat of paint. Choosing the right color for that space can make all the difference because the colors we surround ourselves with can affect the room's mood and how we feel when we're in it.
"You want to love the colors that surround you. So, when imagining (or re-imagining) a room, remember the influence color will have on the mood of the space," Benjamin Moore advises. "The effect may be subtle or dramatic. It can encourage tranquility or boost energy, even make you feel optimistic or more introspective."
Local Paint Color Trends
At Martzall's Custom Surfaces, we always keep up to date with the latest trends, nationally and within our region, because not all trends hit this area, like in California, Nevada, or other areas of the country.
Our area tends to be safer regarding color selection, utilizing trendy colors in smaller areas such as a feature wall, powder room, etc. We are also still in a very neutral pallet, but we are seeing bolder saturated colors such as blues, greens, and blacks becoming more popular. Greys remain strong but trend towards more earthy greys, with greige (a color that combines gray and beige) winning the selection eight out of ten times.
2024 Colors of the Year
Every year, color forecasters pick a color or color pallet of the year. The 2024 color trends range from dark and chic to the always-popular neutral shades and almost everything in between.
Here, we share four of the 2024 colors of the year from some of the most popular color forecasters – Sherwin Willaims, Benjamin Moore, Behr, and Pantone. The first three are paint companies. Pantone's color of the year is included because they are often touted as the "universal language of color," and as Pantone's website states, "Pantone's color language supports all color conscious industries; textiles, apparel, beauty, interiors, architectural and industrial design, encompassing over 10,000 color standards across multiple materials including printing, textiles, plastics, pigments, and coatings."
- Sherwin Williams's
color of the year is a "relaxed and carefree" blue called Upward. Upward is described as "a breezy, blissful blue. The color found when we slow down, take a breath, and allow the mind to clear. A sunny-day shade for spaces brimming with positive energy, creative thinking, and total contentment."
- Benjamin Moore invites you to "explore the extraordinary" with their
color of the year - Blue Nova. "Violet and blue come together in this elevated, sumptuous hue," their color experts (who would impress the likes of Emily Dickinson and J Peterman with their beautiful prose) explain. "This alluring mid-tone features an enchanting duality, capturing the spotlight with endlessly classic appeal."
- Behr's 2024
color of the year is Cracked Pepper, described as "a versatile soft black that accentuates the space you create life moments in." This may be one of those colors best used in smaller areas or just in accents, such as pillows and blankets.
- Pantone's color of the year is the "warm, welcoming shade" Peach Fuzz. It is described as "a velvety gentle peach tone whose all-embracing spirit enriches mind, body, and soul" that "captures our desire to nurture ourselves and others."
